FIRST

The vision of FIRST® may be interpreted in many different ways. We believe this vision encourages two primary goals â€“ the promotion of global, scientific and technological culture and its acceptance amongst many, and the future generations' acknowledgement of technology's growing value in the evolving world of today.

What is culture? Culture is defined by a certain line of thought, promoted primarily by charismatic cultural heroes who represent this line of thought. A culture's line of thought can vary between different countries.

We believe that the importance of technology and its value are often underestimated, since technology is used everywhere. Both technology and science are evolving into the skeleton of the future. The acknowledgment of technological growth is therefore essential and must be endorsed.

"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated, and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders."

®

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit organization founded by Dean Kamen in 1992. FIRST has a prestigious goal: to make youth to be involving in science and technology, and thus create the basis for the future's generation of engineers and scientists. FIRST runs 4 programs to achieve this goal, in the form of robotics competitions. The programs involves teams of mentors and elemntary to high school students, who work together in order to design and build a robot during a fixed period of time. The robot is built for the purpose of competing in a "game" that is designed by FIRST® annually. The "game" varies from year to year and is annually announced during a nationally simulcast kickoff event in January. FRC® teams participate in the competition in a variety of countries, such as Brazil, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Netherlands, United Kingdom, and the United States.
